Carter Hart debuted his new helmet last night in a 4-1 win over the Florida Panthers. Hart posted up 30 saves in his return from injury, getting the Flyers much needed points. That brings the Flyers total to 69 points on the year.
Seeing the Ray Emery helmet is a reminder of how God damn cool Ray Emery was. I remember being so pumped when the Flyers signed Ray. He was coming from Ottawa (and Moscow) and was a legitimate goalie in a town where that is rare. Ray got hit with injuries and eventually left town. He ended up grabbing a Stanley Cup in Chicago before coming back to town. In his return to Philly, Emery had one of the most Philadelphia athlete moments of all time.
That single moment made Ray Emery a Flyer. Even though his career with the team wasn’t long or necessarily filled with highlight plays, this moment endeared himself to the fan base. Glad Carter Hart is tipping his cap to him with the helmet. And as long as the helmet keeps Carter playing like this, everyone will be pretty happy.
